Our Mission

Founded in 1991 by Maureen "Mo" Hubert to offer food assistance to those in need, the food bank has grown in size to offer food, toiletries and other services over the years.  In addition to food, we offer Thanksgiving baskets, Christmas gifts for children & seniors, back to school supplies and other amenities as they become available to us.

Our Funding

FHFB is funded strictly by the generosity of donors, grants, companies, volunteers and individuals in the community.  We partner with the CT Food Bank and provide nutritious and healthy food options for our clients.  We encourage donations via fundraisers, community collaborations and individual monetary gifts.   We gladly accept donations via all major credit cards, checks and non perishable food items.

Our Board & Volunteers

Our Board of Directors are the heart of the food bank and keep the organization running smoothly. We also rely heavily on our volunteers who help out with all aspects of the operations of the food bank. They truly are the driving force behind everything we have accomplished, we couldn't do what we do without their help.

Our Community Partner

The Community Kitchen of Torrington is a vital resource - serving over 90,000 hot meals a year to those in need.  We work work closely with their team to ensure no one goes hungry in our community!

Words that Warm our Soul

Plenty of good food available for people in need. The process for signing up is simple. Call Friendly Hands Food Bank and make an appointment for you and/or your family. Show up on time. They will give you a form to fill out inside. Wait outside and they will bring you a box of food. If there are items that you don't want just leave them on the table. They are currently offering Thanksgiving dinners, sign up when you get there. Don't be afraid to thank the people who are helping you, it makes their day. Make sure you have a mask!

Simply put, they are good people just trying to make a difference in the world. I definitely recommend them if you're in need or are fortunate enough to donate.

Fighting For Justice - Fighting for Peace

They are absolutely amazing, friendly, and helpful. They don't make you feel like a loser, or helpless/hopeless. They truly are a great organization that has helped me and my family in these times of SERIOUS financial difficulties without a million questions. You don't even have to b a resident of New Hartford to qualify. Their door is truly open to everyone! God bless and I hope this helps 😊
